The high marks are starting to pile up for the 2017 Eagles, a team that many thought had merely an outside chance of making the playoffs. Fast forward to Week 8, and the Eagles are sitting on top of the NFL with a league-best 6-1 record.  NFL.com is the latest media outlet to give accolades to the Eagles. They gave Philadelphia the top spot in their Week 8 NFL power rankings.

Here is the reasoning by NFL.com league analyst Elliott Harrison:

There's a new No. 1, and it's not a familiar one. When was the last time the Eagles were the best team in pro football?  Maybe in the first two months of the 2004 campaign, when Andy Reid's squad started the season 7-0 on the way to the franchise's second-ever Super Bowl berth.  Harrison failed to mention the defense, which kept them in Monday's game against the Redskins after an abysmal start by the offense. Like many others who have watched the Eagles, Harrison was specifically pleased with the play of the quarterback.

The 2017 team could be headed in the direction of Super Sunday, especially if Carson Wentz plays like he did Monday night.

The 64-yard bomb to rookie Mack Hollins was a dime. Even more difficult? His throw on the corner route to Zach Ertz to set up a score before half. Impossible would describe Wentz's heave to Corey Clement on a little wheel route in the end zone. On a 1-10 scale, the difficulty on that toss was a thousand. Wentz's mobility is what gets me. MVP?

Multiple NFL power rankings have Philadelphia listed as the top team in the league. The accolades are a good thing to see for a team that no one felt had a chance at being this successful so quickly. However, the rapid ascension can come crashing down just as fast.

The Eagles can not afford to let their record go to their head. They have to stay humble and hungry if they plan on making the most of their hot start. They should adopt a motto in line with rap group Brand Nubian's 2009 hit "Don't Let It Go to Your Head".
