Eating almonds with chocolate may lower cholesterol

Image
Overweight and obese people who eat almonds and chocolate every day may have lower cholesterol than their counterparts who don't consume these foods, a recent experiment suggests. Consumed separately, almonds and chocolate have each been linked to lower blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol and hunger levels in previous studies. For the current study, researchers tested cholesterol levels in 31 overweight and obese people. For four weeks, all of them followed a typical American diet. Every day for another four weeks, they all added almost one-third of a cup of almonds to the typical diet.  In another four-week period, participants added almost one-quarter cup of dark chocolate and about 2.5 tablespoons of cocoa powder per day. Everyone also had a four-week period of adding both the nuts and the dark chocolate with cocoa to their diet. Adding just the almonds reduced participants' levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol by seven per cent, the study found. The resu...

Meet King Schratz, the Instagram Star Who Eats 3600 Calories In One Sitting

Image
The 31-year-old claims he can shovel in thousands of calories while still remaining ripped—but is this actually possible.  Every night, King Schratz (born Dave Schratz) sits down in front of his 62,000 Instagram followers to eat his first, and only, meal of the day. Today, it's 12 bacon-egg-cheese sandwiches and a pile of fries. Earlier in the week, it was cheeseburger sliders, or a bulging-at-the-seams fajita plate.  He lists the nutritional content of each of his meals, adding the hashtag #IIFYM, and he says that each of the feasts runs him about 3,700 calories — yet he has a lean, muscular body, which he proudly displays in his weightlifting videos on Instagram. Schratz has become notorious for limiting himself to exactly one gigantic meal a day. He owns a personal training business called BioFit Solutions in north Jersey, and he claims that he stays in shape by burning off the calories with his intense, 2-hour daily workouts. "It's almost like I'm having a cheat me...

Tests have since revealed that Curry's ankle is "stable and structurally intact," but he will miss at least two weeks with a sprained right ankle. Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry suffered a gruesome ankle injury against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday night. Tests have since revealed that Curry's ankle is "stable and structurally intact," but he will miss at least two weeks with a sprained right ankle. Curry has a history with his right ankle. After spraining it several times during the 2010-11 season, Curry had surgery in 2011 to repair "instability that existed in the ankle due to recurrent ankle sprains." He then sprained the same ankle multiple times during the 2011-12 season, limiting him to 26 games. He required ankle surgery once again in the offseason, this time to clean out "loose debris and scar tissue." It was following Curry's second surgery that the Warriors signed him to a four-year extension worth $44 m...

Behind the scenes with Batman's new Mercedes

Everybody's familiar with Batman's favourite form of transport – the Batmobile. It's gone through many iterations during the hero's decades of service, and the most recent versions have been nothing short of incredible. But when Batman removes the mask and becomes reclusive billionaire Bruce Wayne (played most recently by Ben Affleck), he still needs stylish transport – and for the most recent Justice League movie, the duty of providing that fell to Mercedes. The film's producers originally procured an E-Class Convertible for Diana Prince – aka Wonderwoman, played by Gal Gadot, but something rather more spectacular was needed for Bruce Wayne. In the film, the car in question is a one-off version of Mercedes' Vision Gran Turismo. "To put Bruce Wayne behind the wheel of an experimental prototype vehicle like the Vision Gran Turismo... it's a great fit," said Charles Roven, Justice League producer. Originally conceived as a 'virtual concept'...
